Sheriff John Hanlin was elected and began his term as Douglas County Sheriff on January 1, 2009.

Summer, 2010 -- Lieutenant Brian Sanders has been appointed to the position of Undersheriff effective June 1st, 2010. Current Undersheriff Jim Burge is leaving the Sheriff's Office to become Chief of the Roseburg Police Department. Lieutenant Sanders has been with the Sheriff's Office for 20 years serving in various positions, most recently as the Patrol Division Lieutenant.

The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT ) has been seeing a new blue colored crystal methamphetamine. Intelligence suggests the blue meth is originating from one of the drug cartels based in Mexico. It is believed the cartel is trying to increase sales by coloring it blue so it can be distinguished from the meth produced by the competition.
