OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News

April, 2009 -- We would like to share with you a very prestigious award winner here at the Sheriff's Office. April Stream our long term 911 Communications Director received a lifetime achievement award for all her work and input to better 911 communications not just at the local level, but at the State and National level. We are very proud of her accomplishments and her continued service to our organization and the citizens we are privileged to serve.

Another area we are changing involves the Court House security. We are planning to have a uniformed deputy at the Court House Campus full time in the coming year. We received an audit and feel this is a positive step toward shoring up some of the concerns. Additionally we are beginning to see a rise in emotionally charged issues as the economy struggles. Sheriff Jones also views this as a resource to aid citizens who are unfamiliar with the area and could use help finding what they are looking for.

We are just ending a food drive to help stock local food banks. The Madras City Police accepted a challenge to see who could gather the most food. At present the Sheriff's Office is lagging substantially and would appreciate any assistance you can bring as we search for ways to help folks through tough times ahead. The holiday season is a time noted for giving, but our friends and neighbors will need help beyond this time of year.

We are seeing a rise in graffiti and would appreciate the community's assistance in putting an end to it. If you see anything suspicious regarding graffiti or other crime please partner with local law enforcement by being observant, writing down descriptions, and reporting them promptly.

Lastly, extend kindness where you can and it will return. The best way to be blessed is be a blessing. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office wishes you a happy new year filled with all that makes your dreams come true.
