Summer, 2010 -- The Klamath County Sheriff' Office faces catastrophic budget cuts for the next fiscal year. In an attempt to prevent massive layoffs and closing two jail pods, a levy was placed on the ballot for May 18, 2010. There was a very compressed time for campaigning for the levy as well as possible voter confusion regarding a bond measure for a veterans' home that ultimately was not sited in Klamath County.

The final elections results were 41% for the levy and 58% against the levy. The failure of the levy will result in the loss of 20 funded positions and a reduction in jail population of 88 beds. The Sheriff and his administration are attempting a last ditch effort to secure a source of funding to stabilize the budget for the new fiscal year.
