Graduated from Soldotna High School in Soldotna, Alaska in 1984. Served on active duty U.S. Army from June 1984 to June 1987, attending Basic Training, AIT, Jump School and then stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. Sheriff McDonald was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in June of 1987.
Hired by Lake County Sheriff's Department September 18, 1989, as a Corrections Officer. Promoted to Patrol Deputy November 30, 1992. Was the resident Deputy in Christmas Valley and Silver Lake from November 1992 until November 1998. Appointed County Sheriff on June 29, 2001.

Spring, 2014 – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office just completed
the installation of a complete new heating and air
conditioning system in the Jail. This project was a
long time coming. Our Jail was built in 1953 when
the courthouse was constructed. The cell area was
heated by a forced air furnace, comparable to what
would be in someone’s home.
We are currently in the process of obtaining a
Drug Detection K-9 for the Sheriff’s Office. The
dog handler will be Deputy Maganzini, who is
a resident deputy in Christmas Valley. I would
like to thank all of the citizens who have made
donations to this project. Without their support,
we would not be able to go forward with
