OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News

Graduated from Soldotna High School in Soldotna, Alaska in 1984. Served on active duty U.S. Army from June 1984 to June 1987, attending Basic Training, AIT, Jump School and then stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. Sheriff McDonald was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in June of 1987.

Hired by Lake County Sheriff's Department September 18, 1989, as a Corrections Officer. Promoted to Patrol Deputy November 30, 1992. Was the resident Deputy in Christmas Valley and Silver Lake from November 1992 until November 1998. Appointed County Sheriff on June 29, 2001.

Fall/Winter, 2006 -- Lake County Sheriff Phil McDonald was re-elected to his second full term. The sheriff expressed pleasure with his win: "I feel good and I thank everyone who voted for me. I'll continue to do the best job I can with the resources I have."
