OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News
Summer, 2010 -- In the last two editions of the Sheriffs' Magazine, I have written that we were putting together a citizen's academy and then I wrote we were starting our first citizen's academy.
We have now completed our first citizen's academy. Wow what a great program. When I say that I am not just blowing our horn, but it is from responses we received from the citizens who went through the program. We had people from all walks of life, from 18 years old to 85 years old. After every class, we had positive feedback and appreciation for the job that we do and now the participants have an understanding of the role of the Sheriff's Office. When I was handing out the graduation certificates, I thanked each person for their participation. The response when I thanked them was "No, thank you, for taking the time to give us an opportunity to get to know the Sheriff's Office and the job you do."
I would like to thank the following for the success of the program:
Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Roark who put the program together and did a great job of coordinating the classes and instructors. I would also like to thank the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Between the cooperation of the Sheriffs Offices and being willing to share what they have already done, we were able to take some of each program and make a program that was successful for Lake County.
