Sheriff Rick Eiesland was appointed by the Wasco County Board of County Commissioners as sheriff to replace long time Wasco County Law Enforcement Officer and Sheriff Darrell Hill who retired at the end of February.
Sheriff Eiesland began his law enforcement career in 1987 as a deputy with the Wasco County Sheriff's Office. He spent 5 years as member of the Mid-Columbia Narcotics Team and 6 years as a Detective Sergeant. In 2003 he was promoted to the position of chief Deputy.
Sheriff Eiesland attended Eastern Oregon State College from 1971 through 1973. He attended the prestigious Nation FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 2003. The sheriff was a member of Oregon National Guard from 1969 to 1993 where he retired after 23 years of service.
Sheriff Eiesland is married and he and his wife have four children and nine grandchildren.

April, 2009 -- The Sheriff's Office Annual Christmas Party and Awards Dinner were postponed due to extreme weather. The Sheriff's Office Employee of the Year for 2008 is Deputy Neil Price. 911 Manager Jeanne Pesicka was selected as the 911 Communications Center Employee of the Year, and Pam Branagan, Parole and Probation Employee of the Year. These employees are selected by their peers.
Sheriff Rick Eiesland also recognized Sgt. Chris McNeel with a Distinguished Service Award for his work as Supervisor of the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Team. The team is comprised of officers from 2 city Police Departments, 2 Sheriff's Offices and Oregon State Police.
The volunteer organizations also selected as Volunteer of the Year for their respective groups; Kari Kublick, Posse; Rhonda Pearce, Search & Rescue; and LeRoy Booth, Reserve Deputy. Volunteer Program Coordinators also recognized Ann Van Osdol, Search & Rescue; and Ray Ward, Reserve Deputy; with Certificates of Appreciation for reliability and dedication to their programs.
Additionally, Chief Deputy Steve Conover, Deputies Neil Price and Roger Pearce were each recognized for their 20 Years of Service. Sgt. Brian Helmer was recognized for 15 Years of Service; and Lynn Hair of Parole and Probation being recognized for 5 Years of Service.
