OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News
Summer, 2010 -- An unfortunate motorcycle crash covered by Deputy M. E. Garibay, claimed the life of a Redmond man when he failed to negotiate a corner on Highway 207, north of Mitchell. Estimated speed of the biker was between 110-120 mph.
This quarter was "awash" with training schedules. First courtesy of O.E.D.I., was an Executive Leadership Seminar held in Seaside, and consisted of an updated Use of Force presentation. Next was a six-day Executive Leadership Training, hosted by President Scharn and O.E.D.I., held at the beautiful Sun River Resort with segments presented by the FBI and FEMA. During those six days, many of us began to realize that we could speak our minds, introduce ideas without criticism and rest assured that those who really count (our fellow law enforcement brothers), could and would offer help and support to give credence to our thoughts, concerns, and problems. Kudos to the Oregon Executive Development Institute!
Not to be outdone, OSSA hosted a two-day Command Level Training Conference at Eagle Crest with Sheriff Gary Raney of Ada County, Idaho as the featured speaker. Sheriff Raney's main emphasis was on secrets of garnering more dollars for the impending budget year. Another fascinating topic of discussion was on child pornography and exploitation.
Other than a few bumps and bruises, one DUII, and one domestic violence, the Spray Rodeo and Bikers Abate transpired without any significant issues. The Wheeler County deputies and reserve deputies did an outstanding job of policing the entire county!
