OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News

Winter, 2007 -- On November 30, the National Weather Service predicted a major winter storm to hit by December 3. My office began preparing by communicating with our Emergency Management Department, Public Works, Fire Departments and local governments. When the storm hit Monday morning, we were well prepared. By 9:30 am an Emergency Operations Center was established. At 1 pm a state of emergency was declared. Over 100 homes and multiple blocks of businesses were damaged as the entire downtown core of the City of Sheridan was immersed in flood waters. Forty-one roads and highways were closed for over 24 hours. The EOC was in operation with a unified command for over 96 hours. Thankfully we encountered no injuries or loss of life.
